Asher sighed, walking around the shops yet again. He'd had a horrible time getting his licence back, and every time he went by that stupid pastrey shop, his stomach rumbled hungrily. He'd allready begged the nasty owner of the shop, and been kicked out. He half promised himself he wouldn't watch over that shop so much, but he felt guilty immediately after. No, no...better to just...do his job.
His stomach grumbled again, and he ignored it, walking back and forth from the shops again.

Ethereal had appeared back in her tree in a matter of minutes and had proceeded to file through Asher's wallet. She found some cash, a paycheck (which she had no idea what to do with), a driver's license, and some change. It wasn't at all what she had hoped for, but she tucked it into the cloak pocket anyways in the hopes that something would come into use later.
She had carefully deposited the money in her secret spot, and then once more it was off for her. She couldn't exactly rest in one spot for too long without getting anxious. The girl longed for thrill and secrecy; and so she went out, again, this time to the courts.
Her laughter echoed silently in her head as her amber eyes, invisible to the human crowd around her, looked into a coin purse that she had snatched. Really, ladies these days just carelessly swung their purses around, possibly near her place against a wall on a busy corner. One could maybe see the flash of a dark hand, and then nothing as it melted into the rough surface of the wall while the bearer looked over her posessions. So far she had made quiet a steal, and Ethereal let it get to her pride.
Pinching off mothers and wives was fools business. She had /enough/ of their money as it was; it was the time of day, now, to go bigger. The shut pockets of her dark cloak were heavy with cash but it didn't slow her down as she became invisble with the ground and was gliding beneath the feet of the shoppers, until she stood into a new wall with a sign that read, "Pastries."
She shrugged, and went in.
---
"Oi, you, STOP!" The chef screamed, bursting through the door in a flour covered apron. He had been robbed clean. One moment he was checking out a customer, the cash register opened, and then everything was just...gone. And he had seen a woman rush out the door. And she was still running, bills tucked away in her hands. "Sumbuddy stop 'er! POLICE!"
Ethereal had made a mistake. She had thought too highly of herself, and had seperated from the wall and shown herself before walking out the door. Psht, thinking no one would notice her! Someone did, the exact someone that she had stolen from. Her heart was pounding as she ran, fast, but it didn't feel like enough. Her hood fell down and her thick chocolate hair was streaming out behind her, her head pounding. Tears sprang into her eyes from the oncoming wind, and everything was too confusing to think. She didn't think to use her power, only to follow that natural instinct that every animal posesses--to run. Ethereal sprang over shopping bags and ducked hanging tree limbs and darted through the crowds of shoppers, all the while fleeing for the saftey of her treehouse. She had never been caught before.

Asher heard the call and hesitated for half a second before running in the direction of the pastry shop. He caught sight of a woman in a-- a cloack? This spurred him on, and he sped up, raising his hand, "FREEZE!" he roared, and the woman froze in mid air. "Jesus, f.uck." he growled, because suddenly he had a mirgrane again. He cluched his head, and a few people offered help timidly. He shook his head wearily at them, and walked forward to where the thief was running in place, sort of.
He took out a pair of handcuffs that immediately removed magical abilities, and placed them on her hands. Asher removed the freeze a second after that and grabbed her arms so she wouldn't try to run. "You." he breathed, a little shocked, "You...you stole my wallet!" he finally managed to say.
"Your WALLET?! Who cares about your WALLET, BOY!!! She HAS MY MONEY!" the shopkeeper roared. Asher winced, glared at him, "Shut your face, or I'll be taking you to prison too." he snapped, feeling incredibly dfensive towards the thief. The shopkeeper turned purple, but restrained himself. Asher turned back towards the woman, a small disapproving frown on his face, "Give him back his money, then." he said in a quiet voice, his grip still firm on her arms.

Ethereal struggled for a moment. The fact that she had one second ago been running like no tomorrow and now was in handcuffs startled her. But the main thing to take care of was getting out of this little situation, whatever it took. Beware of the police. The one piece of advice she had not listened to of her mothers, and this was where it got her!
Her throat was dry and so she was silent for a while, catching her breath. The fact that her arms were held behind her at such an akward angle didn't bother her at all; to sleep in a tree, one had to be extremely flexible.
"No," The woman finally said, her eyes looking down at her feet. At this vunerable point she struggled with the handcuffs again, but it seemed like they and Asher would not let her go. Asher. Her head snapped up and glanced him over, a sweet, luring smile creeping onto her face. She flipped her hair back, but some of it fell in her eyes. "Asher Yates...you do not want to take me away, do you?"
She bent her right shoulder back to an extremity so that her body was touching the policeman, her head dangerously close to his. "Because I have a little plastic card with your picture. And a slip of paper with your name on it, seems to be of value but I couldn't figure out how to get the money from it. All in my tree," She said softly, almost pitifully to him. Her eyes trailed down his face to the nape of his neck and her breath became more harsh. And then the silence broke when her knee came up and hit him in a not-so-pleasant place and she once again thrashed about to loosen his hold on her.

It was tempting. But not tempting enough with all these people around. A blatant show of corruption on his part when he'd been the cleanest cop in his division now wouldn't do at all. Asher's eyes crackled angrily and he glared at her, "Well if you're going to be that way." he said, and held both of her skinny wrists in one of his hands while patting her down in a businesslike way. He wasn't in the least embarassed, and soon found the several pockets that she was keeping change, and dollar bills in. "Busy day, then?" he asked dourly, and turned back to the baker.
"How much did you make today?"
"I had more than 800 dollars in that cash register." The man said sniffily, turning a little red at the ears. Asher raised his eyebrows, "Do you want me to bring a truth teller over here?" he asked in a low growl. The man turned pink, "I-- I-- Are you suggesting that I--" he stuttered, but there was an anxious growl from the crowd, and he finally gave in, "672 dollars."
Asher removed that amount from the wad of bills he had and handed it over. Suprisingly, he was left with about 800 dollars of cash. "Jeez. Maybe I should change professions." he muttered crossly, his stomach grumbling at the thought of those pastries. "This money will be taken to the main office. If you've had any stolen, go there and report to the truth teller...then we'll be more than happy to give you a refund." he said shortly, and the crowd dispersed.
He pulled the thief roughly to his car and sat her in it, locking the doors and turning on the magical component that was like the cuffs. "So you're a theif." he said in a quiet disapproving voice.

Ethereal frowned as he took all of her earnings away, muttering softly in disapproval. She was completely silent as he pushed her in the car, collapsing down onto the seat and struggling once more with the cuffs. They were beginning to rub into her wrists, making them sore. She pulled at her arms, and, as he walked around to get into the driver's seat, pushed her feet up against the window and tried to squeeze her wrists from them. It didn't work, and the car was moving with the fuss she was putting up.
She finally sat up in the middle of the seat and panted, catching her breath. Her arms were still locked behind her and she glared in the mirror at him. "Yes," She said with an edge to her voice, "do you have a problem with my profession? I thought you wouldn't. Perhaps, we can..." Ethereal leaned forward to the mesh separating them in the car, her voice dropping to a seductive whisper,"...go back to my tree, and work things out?"

"Of course I have a problem with it, Ethereal!" he said uncomfortably, the tips of his ears turning red. "I'm a cop. I put people like you in jail!" ...Usually. Asher sighed and rested his head against the wheel. He really didn't want to stick Ethereal in jail...it would have seemed more like a crime than her stealing stuff. Like putting a spectacular bird in an iron cage...and leaving it to rott. His stomach squirmed uncomfortably as he looked at her from the rearview mirror. She was still breathtakingly wild looking, and it made the tips of his ears turn redder just looking at her.
Finally he let out a breath, "Fine. Here's what we'll do...We're going back to your...ah...tree..." Asher blinked, feeling like he was talking to some sort of squirrel for a moment. "And I'm getting my paycheck and my badge back. Then...I'll...if...if you're on your uh...your best behavior...and I don't catch you stealing things for a month, I wont stick you in jail the next time I catch you. Or...or this time." The last words slipped in difficultly, and he refused to look at her. Instead, he started the car, and pulled out of his space.
Three looooong hours later (in which Asher was attempting to make polite conversation, and instead making everything sound awkward), they were at the lake. "Okay..." he muttered, getting out and letting her out, but still keeping a warm grasp on her smooth wrist-- uhh! uhh! Her wrist. N-not smooth or nice feeling at all... Now that they were back at the lake, Asher felt embarassed about the incident all over again.
"So uh...l-lead me to your um...tree."
