"He's a friend, David." Yuli snapped into the phone for what seemed like the fifteenth time today. The hot wind blew around her and sand was hitting her face but she didn't notice. "Yeah, well that's what friends do. They hang around. Don't be so ridiculous!" She was wearing her hair short and it shifted as the wind hit her face harder, "Oh, right, you're one to talk. You hang around with that-- You know what? I don't want to talk about this with you over the phone. If you want to talk about it, we're doing it face to face, you coward!"
Yuli snapped her phone shut and clutched her hand over it. A small tremor went over the earth and she pulled her hand back and threw the phone as hard as she could as far as she could...it fell against a boulder with a harmless click and slid down. The 25 year old sighed and covered her face. "Janine would know how to keep her boys in line. But noo. I always seem to end up with the assholes." She muttered to herself, waving her hand with a short quick movement. The boulder that the phone had crashed against fell over and crushed the device.
"Indestructible my ass. I'm getting my money back on that thing..." Yuli muttered moodily, dusting her skinny jeans off and glaring at the place where her cellphone had last cheerfully winked at her. Stupid phone. Stupid David. She could hear his voice in the back of her head, I want this to be more free...this relationship...it'll be like...we're seeing each other but we can see other people... But as soon as she'd /tried/ to do that, to see other people, he got his panties in a bundle, even though he didn't seem to see /anything/ wrong with seeing other women.
Yuli resisted the urge to throw something else and sat down with a solid thump, leaning forward and running her fingers through the red hot sand to try and relax herself.

The large male flicked his tail in a lazy fashion. Well, it was a lazy day. So he had a reason to flick his tail in a lazy way. Why was he in the outcrops of Tontiai? This was the one of many daily routes when he took walks. The male took pride in life. He had a good job, his health, his family. Yep. All was well except...a girl. Sure... he'd had a couple girlfriends in the past. But he was dragging behind in the polls. It seemed like every week he saw Geo with a new girl around his arm. Damnit why was is so hard to find a girl? Sure girls gave him flirty looks all the time- he was a very handsome, muscular cat. But it wasn't what he wanted. Not a girl with a flower pot for a brain. Sure being pretty was nice- but it wasn't everything.
So he was a bit dusty in the dating scene. He was sure to get back on soon enough. Hopefully. Ma' and da' were getting anxious asking about grandkittens and whatnot. And that made this male even more anxious. Sighing at his thoughts the male brought a padded hand up to rub the back of his neck and slightly scratch his ears. Ah. A nice scratch at the ears was all to relax him. Even when--
The ground shook violently for a momment and Garath stumbled a little. He caught himself quickly and glanced around. Oh good, nobody there-- Wait. Damnit. Garath eye'd the person not too far off. Had she felt that weird tremor? He hadn't felt a quake like that since...well..since he was younger. The male but his hands in his pockets and calmly walked over to the person (being even more friendly because the person was a girl). She had dark, tan skin, short hair-- friendly enough for a conversation. Er... Approaching her he saw her face which didn't look too happy. Giving a second thought about leaving he knew it was too late to leave she had seen him. He barely inspected her, not caring really how she looked. It wasn't his first impression when he looked at a person. So he didn't exactly remember this girl- he figured she was just some random traveler like he.
"Er, hi there."
Wow. Just turn and walk away, you already sound like a dumbass. Garath cringed inwardly. His voice was deep and giving off indication of being a 'tough guy'. But truthfully, Garath was just as cuddly as a kitten. Litteraly. He smiled gently down at her hopeing to make some use of the day and be social.

Yuli literally shrieked at the sound of another voice behind her. He'd come up on her blind side, and she'd been so immersed in thought she wasn't paying attention. She ducked and turned around, "JESUS F-- WHO--" Calm the hell down, Yuli babe. She heard Dave's voice in her head and that annoyed her even more. "You know, you should know better than to startle a blind person." she snapped, still feeling a little shaky and then wincing. "No, pretend I didn't say that. Sorry. Bad day. Um. Let me start over."
Yuli covered her face for a moment and then uncovered it, awarding him half a smile, "Right. Hi. I'm Yuli. Sorry I screamed at you...like I said, Bad day." she grinned apollogetically and extended a hand to this...cat...person? "Is something wrong? If it's about the earthquakes, I'm really sorry. I didn't think anybody would be out here today because people say it's haunted but I guess I was wrong. Anyway, you won't have another one for a few weeks probably. I rarely get so pissed that I have to do that but today was just one of those days. Umm...I'll stop telling you my lifes story, now..." she added with a hint of embarassment and a sheepish smile.

Wasn't the most expected response he wanted but, well, yeah. The hairs on his body stood up, his ears perked, large cat eyes wide. Whoops. Okay, he deffinatly should have walked away. This woman was...blind. Ouch. Nice move. Garath growled at himself inwardly for being so stupid. But how could he have known? He couldn't have...so no fault taken.... right? Her tone lowered and she was obviously apologizing for yelling at him. Obvious bad day. Garath relaxed slightly shakey with a weak smile. He took his hand in hers and shook it politely with gentleness. Letting go of her her hand he nodded understanding,
"Ah, I see. Heh, well thats one way to let out stress."
He looked down at her giving a gentle grin before something hit him. Yuli. She said her name was Yuli...? The twenty six year old cat gazed down at her mommentarily as he was left with nothing but a strange feeling of memmory.
"I'm Garath. And yeah I heard the same about this place but so far I haven't seen anything yet. The only weird thing is having an earthquake randomly out of season but I guess I figured that one out."
Garath grinned nicely playing around with her. She was a nice girl. A bit uptight but only because it was a 'bad day'. Now in a guys world that could mean anything from a broken nail to a bad hair day. Supposibly girls didn't like those things. He glanced around after takeing a breath as he exhaled his words,
"Er, can I ask whats wrong?"
He eye'd her carefully still lingering on a faded memmory. It was too far back. Maybe his mind was just playing tricks on him. It seemed to do that to him alot. He inwardly sighed giving up on trying to figure out what was making him like this.
[xD hopefully she'll remember haha poor garath failed]

Yuli considered his last question for a moment and stared at him, brushing her bangs out of her face, "Umm...sure, you can... I'm sorry, this is gonna seem weird but...do you know a guy named Geo?" She stopped and shook her head, "No, never mind. I thought--" She shrugged and grinned again. "I go off on these tangents sometimes... Anyway...my...my on and off boyfriend decided we should take a break, and I'm fine with that, except he's not fine with me seeing other people while we take a break..." She pursed her lips and glared at the space besides Garath, "Even though he thinks it's fine for him to spend all day with sexy blonde chicks, trying to score... Except they know he's a slime ball."
Yuli shook her head and rolled her eyes, staring at him with her blue one, "And I just can't seem to get rid of him." She gave him a short rueful smile. He...really reminded her of this kid she knew back when she was fourteen... But it'd be weird to bring it up again... "Anyway, what are you doing over here? Just going for a walk?" she glanced around as the wind blew her hair in her face, "I love it here. It's so pretty and warm. Warm places are the best."
She paused for a second, "My dad moved us to this place where it was really cold a long time ago, and I've hated it since. My brother, Rorr, loves it though. But he's got this weird fire power thing going on so he can actually stay warm. I can't exactly make earthquakes warm me up."

Geo? Garath stayed silent wondering how she knew Geo. Maybe because she'd met him and well it was figured that he too looked like a cat. Or.... maybe it was something else. Garath shifted as Yuli started to ramble on about boy trouble. That was something they both had in common. Relationship trouble. Well atleast she could find a boyfriend. Again, girls now days.... difficult to determine which one's were keepers. He kept his cool, being a good listener. Something he was good at. This poor girl had some guy that just wouldn't let go. A player he supposed. Annoying bastards. She switched onto the topic of her father and her brother which make his interest spark. Rorr. That...sounded too familiar. He gave her another look over his mind clicking. That was too weird. She couldn't be... Could she? She knew Geo. He knew Rorr-- well atleast he remembered the little fire boy.
"Yeah, It's pretty quiet here too. The towns are too crouded these days..."
He commented witha smile looking at her for one more momment before glanceing to the side and speaking hesitantly,
"And yeah, I have a brother named Geo..."
He let her in about that and for a momment he grew scilent but the more he looked at her the more he wanted to ask,
"Say you wouldn't happen to be the wandermage's daughter? ..."
Wait. Had he said that out loud? Shit. He had. Garath played along with it with a qurious quizical look an ear twitching once to the side.

"Oh, he's your brother-- but that means that you're--" She hadn't finished before she asked his question about being the wandermage's daughter. Yuli squealed, "Ohmygod, I knew it was you!! Yeah, I'm Yuli Belosus! I can't believe it! I havn't seen you in... in years!! It's so weird that we remember each other! Haha, you were there when Rorr's finger was lobbed off that one time, right? Ohgod, you must have thought we were like-- like crazy people!" Yuli beamed at him and giggled. Back then they had been crazy people. Everything had moved so fast when her father was around... "So how's ummm...how is everybody in your family? You know, I only mentioned Geo because he's the only one of your brothers that stuck in my mind. He's really out there isn't he? Like-- Like all over the place!"
Yuli laughed and covered her mouth, "Wow, I can't believe you recognized me, though! I guess it's the eye...I was really different back then. Janine helped me break out of things though..." Yup. I"m miss confidence now. And you're /really/ cute. The girl giggled at the thought, "And of course you're as tall as /ever/. You were huge back then and you still are. I've met all these kids from back then that are like...migits. They grew early, see."
"Jeez, talk about unexpected...this is where we saw each other that one time, right?" She didn't mention what time it was and kind of smiled, "I've never thanked you for that...it was really sweet of you to comfort me like that."

Garath smiled brightly almost half dumbfounded that he was acually reuniting with Yuli again. This was the wandermages daughter! He couldn't belive it for a momment. They hadn't seen each other in years. How unexpected, how... oddly interesting. This was the last place that they met. And after that he had never gotten in touch with her again. Maybe it had been another girl or something else probably stupid. What a shame he didn't get to know her better. He was positive that they had a little... fling going on but nothing serious. There was a little regret in that of course. He beamed as she called him huge. Yeah, he was oddly big considering his parents size. They always joked that his grandparents must have been like tigers or something. Garath noticed her eye as he could acually see it this time. Back then she had been a little under confident of her blindness but now she was so free about it. As she thanked him for that time before he gave a slight smile peices of the memmory coming back to them. She had such a meltdown then, he wondered what she would have done if he hadn't come around.
"Heh, it's okay. It's, uh, really nice to see you again. I mean, you look great."
Garath commented, noticing her hair as it was shorter. He liked it that way, he could see more of her pretty face. He started quickly again recovering from what could have been considered an akward momment,
"So what have you been doing these past years?"

"Oh, thanks!" Yuli said, and then covered her face, "But you don't have to pretend. I'm covered in dust. I don't think I've been dirtier...well, not really...I mean I have been dirtier but..." She trailed off and laughed, "But whatever, you know?" She shrugged and considered his next question, "Well I went to college to study geology, found that it was ridiculous and studied art instead. Now I'm an artist. Not particularly good, but people think it's novel to buy a painting from a chick who makes earthquakes happen."
She laughed and attempted dusting herself off and tucked a piece of stray hair behind her ears, "And you? Have you left htis place at all?"

Garath smiled at her smile. She had grown up so much. It was amazing just to see the transformation. She was so shy and self-concious back when they were younger. She had obviously matured although there was still a tint of rebellion and amusement in her voice. True, she was covered in dust but thats not exactly what he ment by 'looking good'. Not that he was cheking her out. No. No, no, no. Of course she was good looking. And well... He couldn't exactly think of her that way. Or could he? He did like her back then. But he was foolish back then. And she had a boyfriend. But it seemed that she was done with him now. Garath listened pushing his thoughts to the back of his mind. He figured it was obvious that geology would be her study. But geology... sounded like a bore. And she then said an artist. OOh, an artist. And she was blind. That was too interesting. He nodded folding his arms across his broad chest looking down at her friendly. She asked him of his past and he gradually let her though after a satisfied sigh,
"Yep, after highschool I left and enrolled in the Army for five years but after that I came back here got a degree in automoive buisness and mechanics and I've been working in the mechanics feild ever since."
Yep, Garath had quite a history. After highschool things weren't really going his way. He had smarts but not enough to keep him though college. So he did what most kids would do. He enrolled in the army. He had the strength and the brute force and will. Of course it wasn't like any army. "Gifted" Army of some sort. There were hundreds of thousands enrolled to work against the other gifted countries that normal people were against too. You could tell that after the five years of Army Garath had seen alot. After highschool it had hit him hard to see men die. It just wasn't right, his mother would say. But Garath seemed to build an immunity against the emotion of pain and to fight to the death. Of course he wasn't like that now. His size ment nothing, inwardly he was just a fluffy little kitten. Not meaning that he wouldn't use his strength at all-- only when he had to. Anyways, the Army was deffinatly a experience. When they sent him home he was sort of stuck. He hadn't gone to college and he had no education beyond highschool and the Army. He enrolled in a college nearby and for two years he went into a tech school. Afterward he found work at a auto mechanics. Then the rest leads up to now.
[rawr, finally done!]

Yuli's eye flashed with a moment of pain, "The army?" she asked softly, her lips gaining a hard edge. "That must have been...an experience." She'd had her own dealings with the army. They'd tried to recruit her thousands of times. Came to their house personally to try and get every single one of Neil's children to fight for them, or their cause, or against whoever, but Neil had seen the army too. And he would have none of it. Yuli could remember his words. "Any child of /mine/, that is killed in your /army/...will be avenged tenfold. And don't you doubt it." he had said in a rumbling voice, and the men of the army shifted uneasily, made their excuses and practically fled the house.
Later Yuli saw why her father had acted like this, understood the implications of war when she'd traveled back into a mirror of time in this very place. She smiled at Garath uneasily, "I'm sorry...I'm not very comfortable with war..." she murmured apollogetically, glancing around at the sand, "Did you know...this was a battlefield? It's very old...centuries old." The girl cleared her head, shaking it slightly. "Rorr almost enlisted, and Da'-- you know, the wandermage -- went batshit insane. He almost blew the house up."
"NO SON OF MINE WILL GO TO THE ARMY OUT OF HIS OWN NEED TO PROVE HIS MANLINESS!" Neil yelled, his voice loud and uproarious. Rorr had frozen, unused to this sort of anger, then unfroze, "You can't tell me what to do!" Yuli had stepped between the two when it seemed like things might come to blows. And Janine had lounged on the couch, flipped a page of her magazine. So Neil had brought them here. To blood. To death.
"Have you noticed this place sort of echoes memories at you?" Yuli asked suddenly, feeling a shiver crawl up her spine. She hadn't thought about that night in a long time...

"Yes, it was difficult..."
Garath stated blandly, his eyes narrowing down as if remembering. Most people from the army came back with problems or permenant injuries. Most got Post Tramatic Stress. They'd have memmories of battle, be scared of loud noises, wouldn't fall asleep in a foreign place. Garath had his momments sometimes but he was sure he'd gotten rid of it. Beyond the good times there was always the bad. The thoughts of your friends just suddenly dieing right infront of you-- their blood staining your clothes--and all you could do was run so you wouldn't face the same fate. It was rough no doubt.
It was obvious for most reasons that the wandermage wouldn't let his children go to the army. To recive a phone call and hear that your child has died, your baby, your flesh and blood will never cease to exist again. A threatening thought to parents. Perhaps the man was in the army when he was younger too. You can only understand war if you are ever in one. Garath nodded softly understanding her uneasy feeling. War was uneasy for most people. Even for him at times the memmories made him shudder. However all in all-- it felt good. To know you made a diffrence. A change and to fight resembling your people. Anyways it wasn't like Garath had much of a choice. He didn't have much smarts back then and he was huge. Litteraly. What more then to put him as a demolishing machine? So he did it. And he suceeded. The male nodded gently glancing back up at her face. The mere look flooded memmories of when he was younger and with her. Not really with her...but..well.. He listened to her, glanceing off to the air and giving a amused smile.
"Yeah, it is kinda creepy."
Garath chucckled as he realized that not many guys his age and size say something like 'creepy'. But really, it was! This place was just here. Abandoned to the old spirits of soilders. Garath raised a hand scratching the back of his head gently as he glanced back to the ground thinking,
"So were you on your way somewhere...or maybe would you like to um, do something?"
Ehehehe. Garath tried hard. But he was not at all suceeding in the womanizing role. Sure he could shoot a man right in the heart and defend himself at the same time but he couldn't ask a girl out on a date. How pathetic. Was it a date? No... nah.. hmm... maybe. Garath tried a last resort with a cute grin.

"Not really. David's going to call me later and moan at me to take him back. I might, if I'm in the mood-- but it sounds like a drag. I'd rather do something fun. How about coffee?" she asked with a grin, bending over and picking up her purse from the sand, shaking it and watching plumes of dust fall off the purse as if it had been made of smoke. "Although it's a bit hot-- maybe milkshakes instead. If you're up for it. So've you been dating?" she tried to make the inquiry sound casual but maybe she was grinning too broadly for it to be casual. On the inside her fourteen year old self was freaking out intensely and hiding in a corner-- but that self was mostly gone.
"Any girls tyin' yella' ribbons on trees that I should be beating up?" she asked cheerily, looping her arm around his and starting to walk back the way he had come, "By the by, I hope you don't mind that I'm not getting us out of here through the earth-- the earlier earthquakes kind of took it out of me. I mean, they were s'pposed to, but it isn't wise to use up our energy like that."
Yuli had been getting training from Neil's old teacher-- to her, it seemed like it was a miracle he was still alive-- that buzzard was /old/. He'd told her to call him Mr. Nancy and he took her dancing every friday, with her father's sharp warning that the man was a womanizer and she'd best watch out. She /did/ watch out-- but she didn't stop dancing. Mr. Nancy was nimble. Just thinking about it made her want to-- "Ooooh, do you want to go dancing later Garath?!" she pleaded, her eyes widening.

Well if old mr. b.f. was going to be calling later he might as well distract her from answering her phone? Garath smiled slyly as she brought up the sudden idea of him dating. By her grin it was clearly obvious what she was thinking. Oh yeah, those days where they had the cutest little crushes on each other. Garath could still remember first sitting on that couch right next to the makout couple. She wouldn't let him see her blind eye probably self-concious. But now that he could see her face...she was much prettyer. And older. Hmm, milkshakes seemed perfect right about now. He gave a laugh and let his hand stretch to the back of his neck? Dating.
"Heh, well...about that..."
He implyed with the simple trail off of words that it was basically sucking. Being on the dating scene sucked. Well atleast for him it did. He wasn't that bad with girls was he? Maybe he was just too picky. He gave a playful smile and shrugged not caring if they got out quicker. More time to talk. He walked by her as she was obivously thinking-- maybe back on old times. Suddenly his ears perked slightly at her voice chirp. Dance? His wiskers twitched for a second his slit cat eyes looking down at her slyly,
"Danceing? Well, I'll say I'm not the most coordinated guy... but heck, I suppose it won't hurt. We haven't hung out in years."
Have they ever really hung out? Besides in that party house or th hospital or even here? Did those really count? He pondered before asking,
"Why, do you dance?"
He paused curiously after letting his mind fluidly wander having a mental picture of Yuli slide along the dancefloor.

Yuli giggled loudly when he asked if she could dance. "I can dance, garath. I can't grind, or shimmy, or bounce around. I can dance. Mr. Nancy was teaching me. He's taught me all the old songs from like, post world war two era-- they're a blast, I"ll teach them to you! I know this little hole in the wall joint that's got kareoke and dancing but it's all old songs. This really old crowd hangs there. I don't know how they keep dancing they're like ancient, Garath. I mean, like almost dead. And there's this one woman, she's got this fantastic singing voice. Everybody just lets here sing. Man I wish I could sing. Mr. Nancy can sing-- maybe he'll be there."
Okay, Yuli. Green. He's not dating. Maybe. WHAT KIND OF ANSWER WAS THAT ANYWAY? We'll see. David's a douche, anyway. "Do you have a car? I didn't get here in a car." She stated unnecesarily, glancing back once almost nostalgicly, but her eyes were scanning the area-- she had thought she'd seen something on the edge of her vision-- and there it was again. A shimmer. "uhh-- wait a tic--" she said, pausing, and staring at the spot that had shimmered very hard...
Nothing. "Never mind. I thought I saw something, but I think it's just another echo from the dead." She blinked both her eyes and then realized what had been bothering her-- she'd seen it on her blind side. Uh oh. "Let's hurry, okay?" she said with a grin, walking in longer strides, imitating the way Janine walked.
